Introduction

Humboldt Park is on the West Side of Chicago and is known for the changes it has undergone in recent years both socially and demographically.

Humboldt Park’s official boundaries were established by the City of Chicago and include Bloomingdale Ave to the north, the Union Pacific railroad tracks to the south, the train tracks running between Kostner and Cicero to the west, and Humboldt Park proper to the east (to the East side of California Ave).

Subsections

West Town

East Humboldt Park is bordered by Sacramento Boulevard, Western Avenue, North Avenue, and Division Street. Even though West Town is considered a part of the Humboldt Park neighborhood, it is officially part of the West Town area. The area has a large Puerto Rican population and is home to numerous social service organizations, bars, restaurants, cafes, and shops.

West Humboldt Park

West Humboldt Park is the area west of Sacramento Boulevard, though in conventional terms the Humboldt Park neighborhood has been considered between Western Avenue, Pulaski Road, North Avenue, and Chicago Avenue. The area west of Pulaski until Kenton Avenue is considered West Humboldt Park as well.

Transportation

Humboldt Park is serviced by the Chicago L Blue Line 2, as well as the Metra Lines MD-N, MD-W, and UP-W, and Busses #70 and #72.

The area also has access to Divvy, Lyft/Uber rideshare services, and taxi services. Unfortunately, this means that rideshare accidents, pedestrian accidents, motor vehicle accidents, and public transportation accidents can be common in the area.

Demographics

Humboldt Park has a population of 55,011 and in its 3.60 square miles. The area has a large Hispanic and African American population, however, it has also seen an increase in the Caucasian population due to gentrification in the area.

Education

Humboldt Park students are serviced by Chicago Public Schools and charter schools, which include:

  • Chopin Elementary School
  • Laura S. Ward Elementary School
  • Roberto Clemente High School
  • Orr High School
  • Marshall Metropolitan High School
  • Association House High School
  • Humboldt Park Montessori School
  • Rowe-Clark Math & Science Academy
  • Polaris Charter Academy

When sending your child off to school you assume they will remain safe, however, this isn’t always the case. School bus accidents, gym and physical education accidents, lack of supervision, daycare accidents, playground injuries, and school district negligence are just a few examples of the types of school injury cases America’s Consumer Lawyer has experience with.

Attractions

Humboldt Park is home to some activities and attractions, which include:

  • Augusta Park
  • Simons Park
  • Kedvale Park
  • Ohio and Harding Park
  • National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts and Culture
  • The California Clipper
  • Paseo Boricua
  • Urban Theatre Company
  • Humboldt Park
  • Puerto Rican Day Parade
  • Humboldt Park Boathouse

While most of the time spent at these Humboldt Park attractions will be enjoyable and uneventful, accidents can occur, including premises accidents, slip and falls, bicycle accidents, bus accidents, car accidents, drinking and driving, dog bites, and playground accidents.
