Introduction
Little Italy, sometimes combined with University Village, is located on the Near West Side of Chicago and has the current boundaries of Ashland Avenue on the west and Interstate 90/94 on the east, the Eisenhower Expressway on the north and Roosevelt to the south.
Transportation
Little Italy is accessible via mass transit operated by the Chicago “L” Blue Line, as well as the METRA Electric Train and Busses #12, #157, and #60.
The area also has access to Divvy, Lyft/Uber rideshare services, and taxi services. Unfortunately, this means that rideshare accidents, pedestrian accidents, motor vehicle accidents, and public transportation accidents can be common in the area.
Demographics
Little Italy has a population of 30,196 with a median household income of $59,622 according to the most recent U.S. Census. The community was once predominantly Italian immigrants but now is made up of diverse ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds as a result of immigration, urban renewal, gentrification and the growth of the resident student and faculty population of the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC).
Education
Little Italy students are primarily serviced by Chicago Public Schools, magnet schools, and private schools, which include:
- Andrew Jackson Language Academy
- STEM Magnet Academy
- John M Smyth Public School
- St. Ignatius College Prep
- University Village Montessori School
When sending your child off to school you assume they will remain safe, however this isn’t always the case. School bus accidents, gym and physical education accidents, lack of supervision, daycare accidents, playground injuries, and school district negligence are just a few examples of the types of school injury cases America’s Consumer Lawyer has experience with.
Attractions
Little Italy is home to many activities and attractions, which include:
- National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame
- Sheridan Park
- Addams/Medill Park
- Fosco Park
- Arrigo Park
- Garibaldi Park
- Hull House
While most of the time spent at these attractions will be enjoyable and uneventful, accidents can occur, including premises accidents, slip and falls, bicycle accidents, bus accidents, car accidents, drinking and driving, dog bites, and playground accidents.
