Introduction

North Center, and its associated communities, is located on Chicago’s North Side. North Center was settled in the late 19th and early 20th centuries by Germans who worked in what is known as the industrial corridor along Ravenswood Avenue and the area continues to be deeply rooted in its European cultural influences.

Transportation

North Center is accessible by the Chicago “L” Brown Line, Buses #22 and #49, and the Union Pacific North Train.

The area also has access to Lyft/Uber rideshare services and taxi services. Unfortunately, this means that rideshare accidents, pedestrian accidents, motor vehicle accidents, and public transportation accidents can be common in the area.

Demographics

North Center has a population of 34,623 in its 2.07 square miles. According to the most recent U.S. Census, the median income for the area is $92,664.

Neighborhoods

Roscoe Village

While Roscoe Village is not officially on Chicago’s maps, residents perceive the boundaries of the area as Addison Street to the north, Belmont Avenue to the south, Ravenswood Avenue to the east and the Chicago River to the west. The area has been inhabited since the 18th Century by the Fox Indians and has an approximate population of 6,200 residents.

Between 1904 and 1967, Roscoe Village was home to Riverview Park, the “largest amusement park in the world”, however, the DeVry University Campus and Riverview Plaza Center stands in its place.

Saint Ben’s

Saint Ben’s is an unofficial neighborhood with boundaries at Irving Park Road on the north, Addison Street on the south, Damen Avenue on the east, and Western Ave. on the west and is named for Saint Benedict’s Parish.

Education

North Center students are primarily serviced by Chicago Public Schools and private schools, which include:

  • Audubon Elementary School
  • Bell Elementary School
  • Coonley Elementary School
  • Chamberlain College of Nursing
  • DeVry Institute of Technology
  • DePaul College Prep
  • Jahn Elementary School
  • James Adams Alternative High School
  • Lane Technical High School
  • North Park Elementary School
  • Pilgrim Lutheran School
  • St. Benedict Elementary School
  • St. Benedict High School
  • Hamilton Elementary School

When sending your child off to school you assume they will remain safe, however, this isn’t always the case. School bus accidents, gym and physical education accidents, lack of supervision, daycare accidents, playground injuries, and school district negligence are just a few examples of the types of school injury cases America’s Consumer Lawyer has experience with.

Attractions

North Center is home to many activities and attractions, which include:

  • Clark Park Boathouse
  • American Theatre Company
  • Kerry Wood Cubs Field
  • Hamlin Park
  • Clark (Richard) Playlot Park
  • Revere Park
  • Filbert Playlot Park
  • Riverbank Neighbors Park
  • Fellger Playlot Park

While most of the time spent at these North Center attractions will be enjoyable and uneventful, accidents can occur, including premises accidents, slip and falls, bicycle accidents, bus accidents, car accidents, drinking and driving, dog bites, and playground accidents.
