Introduction
Washington Park is an area on the South Side of Chicago stretching east-west from Cottage Grove Avenue to the Dan Ryan Expressway, and north-south from 51st Street to 63rd. The park in the community was named for President George Washington in 1880.
Transportation
Washington Park is served by several different modes of transportation. Rapid Transit is provided by the Chicago “L” Green Line. The area can also be accessed by the Metra Electric District Train and Busses #3 and #55.
The area also has access to Lyft/Uber rideshare services and taxi services. Unfortunately, this means that rideshare accidents, pedestrian accidents, motor vehicle accidents, and public transportation accidents can be common in the area.
Demographics
Washington Park has a population of 12,081 in its 1.48 square miles. According to the most recent U.S. Census, the median income for the area is $22,085.
Education
Washington Park students are primarily serviced by the City of Chicago School District, as well as charter schools and private schools, which include:
- CICS Washington Park
- William W. Carter School
- Burke Elementary School
- Walter H. Dyett High School for the Arts
- Beasley Academic Center
- Saint Edmunds Episcopal Parochial School
When sending your child off to school you assume they will remain safe, however, this isn’t always the case. School bus accidents, gym and physical education accidents, lack of supervision, daycare accidents, playground injuries, and school district negligence are just a few examples of the types of school injury cases America’s Consumer Lawyer has experience with.
Attractions
Washington Park is home to many activities and attractions, which include:
- DuSable Museum of African-American History
- Fountain of Time
- Washington Park
- Universoul Circus in Washington Park
While most of the time spent at these Washington Park attractions will be enjoyable and uneventful, accidents can occur, including premises accidents, slip and falls, bicycle accidents, bus accidents, car accidents, drinking and driving, dog bites, and playground accidents.
