Introduction
West Ridge, and its surrounding neighborhoods, are middle-class neighborhoods located on Chicago’s far North Side, on the 50th and 40th Wards. West Ridge was historically called North Town, and frequently referred to as West Rogers Park, and is bordered on the north by Howard Street, on the east by Ridge Boulevard, Western Avenue, and Ravenswood Avenue, the south by Bryn Mawr Avenue and Peterson Avenue, and on the west by Kedzie Avenue and the North Shore channel of the Chicago River.
Transportation
West Ridge is accessible by the Chicago Red Line, as well as the Union Pacific North and Bus #49B.
The area also has access to Lyft/Uber rideshare services and taxi services. Unfortunately, this means that rideshare accidents, pedestrian accidents, motor vehicle accidents, and public transportation accidents can be common in the area.
Demographics
West Ridge has a population of 72,211 within its 3.53 square miles according to the most recent U.S. Census. The median household income is $46,091. West Ridge is home to the Midwest’s largest Hasidic community as well as other Jewish, Irish American, German-American, Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Assyrian, Russian, and Korean immigrant communities.
