Is GC Services contacting you about a debt? Are they threatening or harassing you? If so, they may have violated your rights under the Federal Debt Collection Protection Act (FDCPA).

At Mike Agruss Law, we know the toll debt collection harassment can take, and we can help you stop the phone calls.

What is GC Services?

GC Services is a third-party debt collection agency headquartered in Houston, Texas. They work on behalf of original creditors to collect unpaid debts such as mortgage loans, credit card debt, car loans, student loans, personal loans, lines of credit, and tax debts.

Unfortunately, GC Services has a history of alleged violations of the consumer protections outlined in the FDCPA.

Is GC Services a Real Company, or Am I Being Scammed?

GC Services is a legitimate company, not a scam. They employ more than 9,000 people in the United States and boast annual revenue of $215 million.

The Better Business Bureau (BBB) indicates the company was established in 1982 and has been BBB accredited since 2011. GC Services’ website touts their customer service and multiple corporate awards, including a 2020 J.D. Power and Associates Ranking in Customer Satisfaction, their third consecutive honor from the company.

But their customer isn’t you–it’s the original creditors they work on behalf of.

What Complaints Have Already Been Filed Against GC Services?

GC Services has a history of alleged misconduct. According to the BBB:

Most of the complaints filed allege GC Services:

  • Sought to collect an inaccurate debt
  • Did not respond to debt verification requests
  • Made harassing phone calls and messages directed at debtors and their families

These alleged actions violate the FDCPA, which states debt collection companies:

  • Cannot collect debts that are inaccurate or do not exist
  • Must provide specific information about the debt when asked
  • Cannot harass you with multiple phone calls
  • Can only contact relatives once
  • Cannot share that they are trying to collect a debt with anyone other than the original debtor

GC Services is Threatening to Sue Me or Garnish My Wages. Can They?

Legally, they have the right to do so and have done so with some debtors in the past. However, they can only threaten to take action if they legitimately intend to do so.

The FDCPA prohibits debt collection companies from misrepresenting themselves or the company’s intention. They cannot threaten or bully you into paying your debt.

Once you hire a lawyer and inform GC Services, they cannot contact you anymore. They will need to communicate exclusively with your lawyer, and we have extensive knowledge of the laws surrounding harassment from debt collectors. The consumer protection lawyers at Mike Agruss Law can help you know if GC Services intends to sue you or if they are trying to intimate you into paying.

GC Services Says I Can Negotiate a Settlement. Should I?

You can negotiate a settlement if the debt is legitimate. However, doing so will not immediately increase your credit score. Having a debt collection account on your credit report impacts your credit for seven years, even after the debt is paid.

If the debt is not legitimate or GC Services has been harassing you, talk to an attorney at Mike Agruss Law about your options.

Can I File a No-Fee Lawsuit Against GC Services?

The FDCPA upholds your right to sue GC Services for damages if your rights have been violated. Contact Mike Agruss Law today about filing a lawsuit.

How Can I Make GC Services Stop Calling Me?

Tell GC Services in writing to stop contacting you, at which point they are only allowed to contact you when they plan to take action, like filing a suit against you. You can also work with a credit repair company to put an end to harassment from debt collectors.

However, in most cases, your best option is to hire experienced attorneys like the team at Mike Agruss Law. Once you inform GC Services that you have legal representation, they are only allowed to contact you through us.

Can I Get GC Services Removed from My Credit Report?

We can help you remove GC Service from your credit records if they appear on your credit report for an inaccurate debt.
