Hi Romana. Unfortunately, debt collectors do not have to accept that negative things happen in life that make paying full payments impossible. Hi Carlos. Is it possible the debt is an older debt that has been sold to Portfolio Recovery Associates? You can always request a debt validation letter from them to determine if there is a legitimate debt or if they are calling you in error. You can also make the calls stop with a certified cease and desist letter. Hi Aime. There are things you can do to make the calls stop. Debt collectors are not permitted to call you outside of legally permissible hours, which is between 8am-9pm. Hi Syed. It is common for debt collectors to use many different phone numbers, as well as use phone numbers with an area code close to yours to try and trick you into answering their calls. You can block them but it always seems like they have more numbers at their disposal. Fortunately, you do have options in dealing with these calls, especially if you don't even owe a debt to them. However, this tactic is against the law and they cannot threaten you with legal action unless they fully intend on following through. I spoke with someone from pro folio recovery explained that I could only pay $10 a month due to no job because COVID my job closed and I been paying $10 a month and now they are trying to send me letters from a lawyer saying they are suing me and they are always calling me every day .

I've been getting calls from Portfolio Recovery Associates at random times of the day. They call from different phone numbers, I block them and they call from different numbers. This is very intrusive. How can you help me? I don't owe them anything. This has been confirmed over the phone with them before. They told me they won't call me again, and after a while they have been calling me again. They call me at two different numbers. First one is 202-643-2864. Second one is 4433539252. I just need this to stop!
