Introduction
Clinton County, not to be confused with Clinton, Illinois, has a population of 37,762 as of the last U.S. Census. Clinton County was named for the seventh governor of New York, DeWitt Clinton, who helped build the Erie Canal. The county seat for Clinton County is Carlyle.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Clinton County has a total area of 503 square miles, of which 474 square miles is land and 29 square miles is water.
Major Highways
Clinton County is only 25 miles from St. Louis, so it is not uncommon to see vehicles of all sizes on the roads of Clinton County. The average temperature of Clinton County ranges between lows of 19 °F in January and 88 °F in July. The average precipitation of Clinton County 40.5 inches, which not only contributes to motor vehicle accidents, but also slip and fall accidents, pedestrian accidents, and bicycle accidents.

As of the 2010 U.S. Census, there were 14,005 households in Clinton County with 9,760 families in residence. 32.7 percent of households had children aged 18 or under, and the median age was 39.3 years old, making Clinton County a young, middle-class family community with a median income of $55,278 per household and $66,682 per family.
