Cook County, with the county seat of Chicago, is the second-most populous county in the U.S. after Los Angeles County, California. Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Cook County has a total area of 1,635 square miles, of which 945 square miles is land and 690 square miles is the water of Lake Michigan. The county is the sixth-largest Illinois county by land area and the largest in total area.
