Introduction
DeKalb County, with the county seat of Sycamore, has a population of 105,160 as of the most current U.S. Census. The county, noted for its agriculture and credited as the birthplace of the Farm Bureau movement, was named for Johann DeKalb, a hero of the American Revolution.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, DeKalb County has a total area of 635 square miles, of which 631 square miles consists of land and 3.4 square miles is water.
Major Highways
DeKalb County has a largely agricultural community, as well as many residents working in business, transportation, and factories, keeping its roadways busy. DeKalb County weather is typical for Illinois, with highs averaging 84 °F during the summer months and lows averaging 10 °F during winter. On average, DeKalb County gets 37.3 inches of measurable precipitation in the form of rain, snow, or hail, which not only contributes to motor vehicle accidents, but also slip and falls, pedestrian accidents, and bicycle accidents.
