Introduction
DeWitt County, with the county seat of Clinton, has a population of 16,561 as of the most recent U.S. Census. The county was named in honor of the seventh governor of New York State, DeWitt Clinton.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, DeWitt County has a total area of 405 square miles, of which 398 square miles consists of land and 7.6 square miles is water.
Major Highways
DeWitt County has a largely agricultural community, as well as many residents working in manufacturing, transportation, and retail, keeping its roadways busy. DeWitt County weather is typical for Illinois, with highs averaging 88 °F during the summer months and lows averaging 17 °F during winter. On average, DeWitt County gets 39.8 inches of measurable precipitation in the form of rain, snow, or hail, which not only contributes to motor vehicle accidents, but also slip and falls, pedestrian accidents, and bicycle accidents.
