Introduction
Douglas County, with the county seat of Tuscola, has a population of 19,980 as of the most current U.S. Census. The county was named for Stephen A. Douglas, who was elected to the U.S. Senate following the Lincoln-Douglas debates.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Douglas County has a total area of 417 square miles, of which 417 square miles consists of land and 0.6 square miles is water.

Douglas County is a rural community positioned in the heart of Illinois, with many residents working in farming, manufacturing, transportation, and retail, keeping its roadways busy.
