Introduction
Edgar County, with the county seat of Paris, has a population of 18,576 as of the most current U.S. Census. The county was named for John Edgar, an Irish-born officer of the Royal Navy who resigned rather than fight against the American’s in the Revolutionary War.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Edgar County has a total area of 624 square miles, of which 623 square miles consists of land and 0.6 square miles is water.

Edgar County has many residents working in manufacturing, transportation, and retail, as well as one public-use airport, Edgar County Airport, keeping its roadways busy.
