Gallatin County, with the county seat of Shawneetown, has a population of 5,589 according to the most recent U.S. Census. The county, named for Secretary of the Treasury Albert Gallatin, is located at the mouth of the Wabash River and helps to form the tri-point of the Illinois-Indiana-Kentucky Tri-State Area.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Gallatin County has a total area of 328 square miles, of which 323 square miles consists of land and 5.1 square miles is water.
