Introduction
Hardin County, with the county seat of Elizabethtown, has a population of 4,320 according to the last U.S. Census. The county was named for Revolutionary War and Northwest Indian War officer, Colonel John Hardin.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Hardin County has a total area of 182 square miles, of which 178 square miles is land and 4.1 square miles is water.

Hardin County has a largely agricultural community, as well as many residents working in manufacturing, health care, and retail, keeping its roadways busy.
