Introduction
Jasper County, with the county seat of Newton, has a population of 9,698 according to the most recent U.S. Census. The county is named for Sgt. William Jasper, a Revolutionary War hero from South Carolina.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Jasper County has a total area of 498 square miles, of which 495 square miles consists of land and 3.6 square miles is water.

Jasper County has a largely agricultural community, as well as many residents working in health care, manufacturing, transportation, and retail, keeping its roadways busy.
