Introduction
Jersey County, with the county seat of Jerseyville, has a population of 22,985 according to the most recent U.S. Census. The county was named for the state of New Jersey, from which many early settlers migrated from.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Jersey County has a total area of 377 square miles, of which 369 square miles consists of land and 7.9 square miles is water.

Jersey County maintains a strong agricultural presence, however, many residents commute to St. Louis Missouri and surrounding areas, working in the medical field, farming, manufacturing, transportation, and retail, keeping its roadways busy. Jersey County weather is typical for Illinois, with highs averaging 88 °F during the summer months and lows averaging 17 °F during winter. On average, Jersey County gets 38.3 inches of measurable precipitation in the form of rain, snow, or hail, which not only contributes to motor vehicle accidents, but also slip and falls, pedestrian accidents, and bicycle accidents.
