Jo Daviess County, with the county seat of Galena, has a population of 22,678 according to the last U.S. Census. The county is named for Major, Joseph Hamilton Daveiss, whose name is often misspelled, and was the United States District Attorney for Kentucky and who was killed at the Battle of Tippecanoe.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Jo Daviess County has a total area of 619 square miles, of which 601 square miles consists of land and 18 square miles is water.
