Introduction
Kane County, with the county seat of Geneva, has a population of 515,269 according to the most recent U.S. Census. The county, named for Elias Kane, a U.S. Senator and the first Secretary of State of Illinois, is the fifth-most populous county of Illinois.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Kane County has a total area of 524 square miles, of which 520 square miles consists of land and 4.1 square miles is water. There is an extensive forest preserve program in Kane County, with numerous preserves, historic sites, and trails.
Major Highways
Kane County has an extensive county highway system, as well as several hospitals, transportation services, and the Aurora Municipal Airport, keeping its roadways quite busy.
