Introduction

Kendall County, with the county seat of Yorkville, has a population of 114,736 according to the most recent U.S. Census. The county is named for Amos Kendall, the editor of a Frankfort, Kentucky newspaper who later became an advisor for Andrew Jackson and the U.S. Postmaster General in 1835. 

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Kendall County has a total area of 322 square miles, of which 320 square miles consists of land and 2.0 square miles is water. 

Major Highways

Kendall County has many residents working in agriculture, health care, manufacturing, transportation, and retail keeping its roadways busy. Unfortunately, this also means that motor vehicle accidents are common including agricultural truck accidents, parking lot accidents, work zone accidents, car and truck accidents, motorcycle accidents, and accidents involving animals.

According to the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), in 2017, Kendall County had 1,897 motor vehicle accidents. Of these accidents, 10 were fatal, 454 resulted in injuries, and 53 of these accidents resulted in A-injuries, or injuries that are classified by IDOT as any injury, other than a fatality, that prevents the injured person from walking, driving, or continuing with the activities they were capable of prior to the accident. This can include severe lacerations, skull and chest injuries, broken limbs, and abdominal injuries.

The major highways that run through Kendall County include: Interstate 80, U.S. Highway 3, U.S. Highway 34, U.S. Highway 52, Illinois Route 25, Illinois Route 3, Illinois Route 4, Illinois Route 71, and Illinois Route 126.

Climate and Weather

Kendall County weather is typical for Illinois, with highs averaging 84 °F during the summer months and lows averaging 10 °F during winter. On average, Kendall County gets 38.4 inches of measurable precipitation in the form of rain, snow, or hail, which not only contributes to motor vehicle accidents, but also slip and falls, pedestrian accidents, and bicycle accidents.

Kendall County has approximately 38,022 households with 65.8% of these households consisting of married couples and 47.9% with children under the age of 18. The median household income of Kendall County is $79,897 and the median income for families is $87,309, making Kendall County a middle-class, family-oriented community.
