Introduction
Knox County, with the county seat of Galesburg, has a population of 52,919 according to the most recent U.S. Census. The county was named for Henry Knox, the first U.S. Secretary of War.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Knox County has a total area of 720 square miles, of which 716 square miles consists of land and 3.4 square miles is water.
Major Highways
Knox County has many residents working in agriculture, health care, manufacturing, transportation, and retail keeping its roadways busy. Knox County weather is typical for Illinois, with highs averaging 85 °F during the summer months and lows averaging 13 °F during winter. On average, Knox County gets 37.3 inches of measurable precipitation in the form of rain, snow, or hail, which not only contributes to motor vehicle accidents, but also slip and falls, pedestrian accidents, and bicycle accidents.
