Introduction
Lake County, with the county seat of Waukegan, has a population of 703,462 according to the most recent U.S. Census. The county, the second most wealthy county in Illinois, is home to the United States Navy’s Headquarters Command for training and is the Navy’s only recruit training center.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Lake County has a total area of 1,368 square miles, of which 444 square miles consists of land and 935 square miles is water due to its many lakes.

Lake County has many residents working in health care, manufacturing, transportation, and retail keeping its roadways busy. Lake County weather is cooler than is typical for Illinois, with highs averaging 78 °F during the summer months and lows averaging 19 °F during winter.
