Introduction
LaSalle County, with the county seat of Ottawa, has a population of 111,241 as of the most recent U.S. Census. The county is named for early French explorer Rene-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle, the first reported European to enter the area.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, LaSalle County has a total area of 1,148 square miles, of which 1,135 square miles consists of land and 13 square miles consists of water. The county is the second-largest county in Illinois by land area and the fourth-largest by total area.
Major Highways
LaSalle County is one of the largest counties in Illinois and has a unique mix of river towns and farmland. Agriculture is one of the main industries in LaSalle County, but the roads and highways are often busy with motor vehicles of all shapes and sizes. LaSalle County weather is typical for Illinois, with highs averaging 85 °F during the summer months and lows averaging 12 °F during winter. On average, LaSalle County gets 35.7 inches of measurable precipitation in the form of rain, snow, or hail, which not only contributes to motor vehicle accidents, but also slip and falls, pedestrian accidents, rideshare accidents, and bicycle accidents.
