Introduction
Livingston County, with the county seat of Pontiac, has a population of 38,950 according to the most recent U.S. Census. The county was named for Edward Livingston, a prominent politician and mayor of New York who later served as Andrew Jackson’s Secretary of State and Minister to France. Although he had no ties to Illinois, his accomplishments were enough to have Livingston County named after him in 1837.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Livingston County has a total area of 1,046 square miles, of which 1,044 square miles consists of land and 1.6 square miles consists of water.
Major Highways
Livingston County roads and highways are often busy with motor vehicles of all shapes and sizes. Livingston County weather is typical for Illinois, with highs averaging 85 °F during the summer months and lows averaging 14 °F during winter. On average, Lawrence County gets 36 inches of measurable precipitation in the form of rain, snow, or hail, which not only contributes to motor vehicle accidents, but also slip and falls, pedestrian accidents, rideshare accidents, and bicycle accidents.
