Introduction
Marshall County, with the county seat of Lacon, has a population of 12,640 according to the most recent U.S. Census. The county was named in honor of John Marshall, Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court who died in 1835.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Marshall County has a total area of 399 square miles, of which 387 square miles consists of land and 12 square miles consists of water.
Major Highways
Marshall County roads and highways are frequently busy with residents traveling back and forth to work, school, and to the activities in the area. Marshall County weather is typical for Illinois, with highs averaging 87 °F during the summer months and lows averaging 15 °F during winter. On average, Marshall County gets 37.8 inches of measurable precipitation in the form of rain, snow, or hail, which not only contributes to motor vehicle accidents, but also slip and falls, pedestrian accidents, rideshare accidents, and bicycle accidents.
