Menard County, with the county seat of Petersburg, has a population of 12,705 according to the most recent U.S. Census. The county is named for Pierre Menard, the first lieutenant governor of Illinois.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Menard County has a total area of 315 square miles, of which 314 square miles consists of land and 1.0 square miles is water.
