Introduction
Morgan County, with the county seat of Jacksonville, has a population of 35,547 according to the most recent U.S. Census. The county was named for General Daniel Morgan, who defeated the British at the Battle of Cowpens in the American Revolutionary War.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Morgan County has a total area of 572 square miles, of which 569 square miles consists of land and 3.5 square miles is water.

Morgan County has many residents working in agriculture, health care, manufacturing, transportation, and retail keeping its roadways busy.
