Peoria County, with the county seat of Peoria, has a population of 186,494 according to the most recent U.S. Census. The county was named for the Peoria, an Illiniwek people who lived there.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Peoria County has a total area of 631 square miles, of which 619 square miles consists of land and 11 square miles consists of water.

Peoria County roads and highways are frequently busy with residents traveling back and forth to work, school, and to the activities in the area.
