Introduction
Perry County, with the county seat of Pinckneyville, has a population of 22,350 according to the most recent U.S. Census. The county is named for Oliver Hazard Perry, who defeated the British at the Battle of Lake Erie in the War of 1812.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Perry County has a total area of 447 square miles, of which 442 square miles consists of land and 5.2 square miles consists of water.

Perry County roads and highways are frequently busy with residents traveling back and forth to work, school, and to the activities in the area. Perry County weather is typical for Illinois, with highs averaging 90 °F during the summer months and lows averaging 22 °F during winter.
