Introduction
Piatt County, with the county seat of Monticello, has a population of 16,729 according to the most recent U.S. Census. The county was named for James A. Piatt, who was instrumental in forming the county and won the right to have the county named for him by winning a coin toss.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Piatt County has a total area of 439 square miles, of which 439 square miles consists of land and 0.3 square miles consists of water.

Piatt County roads and highways are frequently busy with residents traveling back and forth to work, school, and to the activities in the area.
