Introduction
Pike County, with the county seat of Pittsfield, has a population of 16,430 according to the most recent U.S. Census. The county was named in honor of Zebulon Pike, leader of the Pike Expedition to map out portions of the Louisiana Purchase who also served at the Battle of Tippecanoe and was killed in the War of 1812.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Pike County has a total area of 849 square miles, of which 831 square miles consists of land and 18 square miles consists of water.

Pike County roads and highways are frequently busy with residents traveling back and forth to work, school, and to the activities in the area. Pike County weather is typical for Illinois, with highs averaging 86 °F during the summer months and lows averaging 15 °F during winter. On average, Pike County gets 37.2 inches of measurable precipitation in the form of rain, snow, or hail, which not only contributes to motor vehicle accidents, but also slip and falls, pedestrian accidents, rideshare accidents, and bicycle accidents.
