Introduction
Putnam County, with the county seat of Hennepin, has a population of 6,006 according to the most recent U.S. Census. The county is named in honor of Israel Putnam, a general in the American Revolution.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Putnam County has a total area of 172 square miles, of which 160 square miles consists of land and 12 square miles is water.

Putnam County has a strong agricultural presence and many residents working in the medical field, farming, manufacturing, transportation, and retail, keeping its roadways busy.
