Introduction
Randolph County, with the county seat of Chester, has a population of 33,476 according to the most recent U.S. Census. The county is named in honor of Edmund Randolph, who was Governor of Virginia. Randolph County has the state motto of “Where Illinois Began” and contains the first state capital of Kaskaskia.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Randolph County has a total area of 597 square miles, of which 576 square miles consists of land and 22 square miles is water.

Randolph County has a strong agricultural presence and many residents working in the medical field, farming, manufacturing, transportation, and retail, keeping its roadways busy.
