Introduction
St. Clair County, with the county seat of Belleville, has a population of 270,056 according to the most recent U.S. Census. The county is named after Arthur St. Clair, the first Governor of the Northwest Territory who named the county after himself.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, St. Clair County has a total area of 674 square miles, of which 658 square miles is land and 16 square miles is water.

St. Clair County has a largely agricultural community, as well as many residents working in manufacturing, health care, transportation, and retail, keeping its roadways busy.
