Introduction
Tazewell County, with the county seat of Pekin, has a population of 135,394 as of the most recent U.S. Census. The county may be named in honor of Littleton Tazewell, the Governor of Virginia, however, it may have been named for his father, a prominent Virginia politician.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Tazewell County has a total area of 658 square miles, of which 649 square miles consists of land and 9.0 square miles is water.
Major Highways
Tazewell County has a largely agricultural community, as well as many residents working in manufacturing, transportation, and retail, keeping its roadways busy. Tazewell County weather is typical for Illinois, with highs averaging 86 °F during the summer months and lows averaging 14 °F during winter. On average, Tazewell County gets 36.1 inches of measurable precipitation in the form of rain, snow, or hail, which not only contributes to motor vehicle accidents, but also slip and falls, pedestrian accidents, and bicycle accidents.
