Winnebago County, with the county seat of Rockford, has a population of 295,266 according to the most recent U.S. Census. The county is named for the Winnebago Tribe of American Indians.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Winnebago County has a total area of 519 square miles, of which 513 square miles consists of land and 5.9 square miles consists of water.

Winnebago County roads and highways are frequently busy with residents traveling back and forth to work, school, and to the activities in the area. Winnebago County weather is typical for Illinois, with highs averaging 83 °F during the summer months and lows averaging 11 °F during winter. On average, Winnebago County gets 36.6 inches of measurable precipitation in the form of rain, snow, or hail, which not only contributes to motor vehicle accidents, but also slip and falls, pedestrian accidents, rideshare accidents, and bicycle accidents.
