Billing Problems

One of the top complaints against Apria Healthcare LLC is with their billing inconsistencies. According to complaints, numerous customers have had to pay twice before payments reflected in the company’s system; first through the patient’s insurance and second from out-of-pocket expenses. Apria Healthcare LLC has failed to verify their patient and clients’ insurance for numerous payments.

Overpriced Medical Equipment

According to other complainants, Apria Healthcare LLC has also been selling equipment at premium prices, sometimes reaching 4x the original price or over. The company also reportedly refused to refund patients and customers who have overpaid for services and products they’ve availed.

Product and Delivery Issues

Customers have also lamented about the defective products Apria Healthcare LLC has sold them. Numerous customers have left reviews about CPAP machines with broken masks and wires, sometimes with the latter missing in the package. Some of the customers also alleged having their orders switched including replacements sent by Apria Healthcare LLC.

Poor Customer Service

Customers of Apria Healthcare LLC have had issues with the company’s agents hanging up on them or being indifferent about their issues. Other times, customers complained of having to deal with multiple agents after being passed down to different departments. Most of the time, customers were simply left with their problems unresolved.

Unfortunately, these complaints are just the beginning for Apria Healthcare LLC. Between billing problems, premium pricing, product and delivery concerns, and subpar customer service, Apria Healthcare LLC customers are left wondering what options they have regarding their consumer rights.

Here’s How to Make Big Companies Listen

It can be frustrating when you rely on a service and don’t get the results you’ve paid for. Big companies make mistakes every day and not only is it their fault, but it can also cost you money, time, and leave you with big headaches.

Have you tried calling Apria Healthcare LLC to address an issue, only to be told that the representative has no authority to do so? Or maybe you’ve tried talking to someone higher up in the company, only to be ignored, dismissed, or they take too long, continuing to waste your precious time. Maybe you’ve sent an email to the company which only resulted in a prefabricated response or they never follow through with what they’ve promised.

When you’re limited in your choices for service providers or you’re locked into a contract, what can you do?

Fortunately, you do have options.

Use Arbitration to Settle Your Complaint

Most companies like Apria Healthcare LLC have an arbitration clause in their contracts to prevent being taken to court for traditional litigation. This is actually an advantage for the consumer. When you request an arbitration hearing, an independent third party (the arbitrator) with knowledge of the type of situation involved will listen to the facts from both sides and make an impartial, binding decision. Apria Healthcare LLC will have to do a lot of work and there is no guarantee that they will have a successful outcome.

Arbitration is Fast, Inexpensive, and Private

Arbitration with Apria Healthcare LLC is conducted through the American Arbitration Association (AAA). According to the AAA Consumer Due Process Protocol, arbitration through AAA will comply with their Statement of Principles, which includes:

  • The process is fundamentally fair – All parties are entitled to qualified, competent, impartial arbitrators who will conduct a fair hearing.
  • You get access to all relevant information – This includes reasonable costs, confidentiality, reasonable time limits, and meeting times and/or locations that are agreeable to both parties.
  • Transparency – AAA provides clear arbitration agreements and the ability for each side to hire their own representation.
  • Just process – Arbitration allows the arbitrator to award the same relief as traditional litigation in a binding decision.
  • Alternative to arbitration – Mediation and the ability to take the case to small claims court should be available in some cases.

Arbitration Gives you Control and Leverage

When Apria Healthcare LLC is alerted that you plan to pursue arbitration, they know it will cost them money out of pocket. Not only do they run the risk of losing the case, but they will also pay for their mistake(s) and the arbitration itself. This gives you more leverage with your demands.

If Apria Healthcare LLC doesn’t meet those demands and you have a real complaint, Mike Agruss Law can help by representing you in arbitration where you will get a fair, just, and transparent hearing.

Control and Leverage Triggers Faster Settlements

Large companies like Apria Healthcare LLC don’t like the uncertainty and loss of control that comes with arbitration. Not only do they lose the advantage in the situation, but you’re also on equal footing with them in the eyes of arbitration.

The first step in taking on Apria Healthcare LLC is to formally raise your complaint. The lawyers at Mike Agruss Law can help you to do so. We will send a letter of demands to the corporate offices of Apria Healthcare LLC, letting them know that you’re ready to begin arbitration if a satisfactory resolution is not achieved. Typically, this is 30 days, but it will depend on your specific contract with Apria Healthcare LLC.

Approximately 50% of cases will settle before proceeding to an arbitration hearing during this time. However, if Apria Healthcare LLC doesn’t offer a reasonable settlement within the appropriate time frame, the next step would be filing a case with AAA. Mike Agruss Law will not only put together the necessary paperwork for arbitration, but we will also help you take the next steps in the arbitration process.

UDAAP and Arbitration

UDAAP is an acronym representing laws that prohibit Unfair, Deceptive, or Abusive Acts or Practices in the context of trade or business. This includes misrepresentation, deception, false advertising, or false promises. These laws emerged following the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act that was enacted in response to the 2008 financial crisis. The ultimate goal with these laws is geared towards protecting consumers involved in financial transactions, educating consumers on their rights, and allowing them access to information and resources to best inform their decisions.

UDAAP laws are regulated by two organizations, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). The FTC expanded the initial UDAAP laws in 2004 to include unfair and deceptive acts and practices. Some standards for unfairness, in particular, include if it causes or is likely to cause substantial injury to consumers, the injury is not reasonably avoidable by consumers, and the injury is not outweighed by countervailing benefits to consumers or to competition.

Every state has UDAAP laws, which can vary widely. However, the lawyers at Mike Agruss Law understand these laws and can use them to get compensation for deceptive practices, representing consumers throughout the country in cases of arbitration at no cost to them. The company will not only pay the consumer, but they will also pay my fees as well. The consumer will never pay me a cent.

If you’re dealing with an issue with Apria Healthcare LLC, you might try filing a complaint with the BBB or the customer service team with Apria Healthcare LLC. Unfortunately, these avenues won’t always lead to a successful resolution for you, the customer. Instead, you may want to consider an experienced arbitration lawyer to take on your case.

Arbitration is a very useful tool for resolving disputes, and Mike Agruss Law can help. With our expert guidance, we bring the big companies to the table and provide the support needed to get your bills corrected, credit reports fixed, improper fees refunded, and more. Let us pick up the sword for you; you have nothing to lose.

How Do I File a Complaint Against Apria Healthcare LLC?

We will use your state’s UDAAP law to file a complaint in Arbitration on your behalf at no cost to you.  UDAAP laws include misrepresentation, deception, false advertising, or false promises.  Under your state’s UDAAP law, you are likely entitled to money damages for your actual damages.  Plus, the other side will pay our fees and costs.  You will not pay us a penny.

They provided me with a non-functioning CPAP in February of 2023. I returned to them after a day and they provided me with a certificate of return, which I still have. They received 6,000 from my primary insurance (Blueshield) who referred to another company who provided the device I needed. It took me over a year to get blueshield to cover my new CPAP since APRIA was claiming I still had the one I returned. I have spent hours and have been through 4 3 denials with blue shield and had to file a grievance through the state and Desert Air Mobility has yet to be compensated for the CPAP that i am fully covered for as an RN through my work. I want pursue a case against APRIA. They are a dishonest and fraudelent corporation. They never answered their phones and I had to drive 9 miles to them each time just to be able to get information. I have all docs to show when the machine was returned and to date, Desert Air Mobility still has not received payment from Blue Shield. I have spent countless hours on the phone and filing documents because of APRIA. Thank you in advance for advocating for patients unfortunate enough to have to deal with APRIA.

Consistant billing issues. Just got called today saying I owe $191 something but when I asked to see the statement they said it wasn\'t generated. When I logged into my apria epay account it showed I owed like $2... It\'s impossible to see what they actually charge, they don\'t update my info when I send it to them (insurance, address, etc.) and they might be THE WORST company I have ever had to deal with. Curious to see what you have to say because I think I need to go and look at my EOBs past 2years to see if Apria has fraudulent.

I purchased Apria Health CPAP supplies in December of 2023. My credit card was billed on 12/06/2023 the full amount despite my being insured by Anthem Blue Cross for many years. On 12/07/2023 Anthem Blue Cross paid the majority of the cost of the CPAP supplies, leaving me with a bill of 32.10 in copayments. I contacted Apria in December to complain about the overpayment and was told I would be credited as soon as Anthem paid (at the time of the call Anthem had submitted their EOB to Apria). I contacted Apria in January to ask the status of my refund of $181.91 and was told it would take two weeks to process (please note your company’s response changed). I contacted Apria again through the chat system and received no response. I followed up on 3/4 with a fax to their billing department requesting my refund - no response.

Apria continues to charge me and my insurance Company ( Bcbs) for cpap supplies I have not authorized or received. I have called Apria and requested that I have NO SUPPLIES sent to me or billed to me. My doctors knows not to give any referrals to Apria unless I speak with them directly, which I have not since May 2023 ( for just my cpap machine ) As of feb 2024 I am still getting a bill for supplies that I didn’t order or received

I have a c-pap machine from Apria. My insurance company, Blue Cross Blue Shield, informs me that my patient responsibility has been met. However, I have repeatedly received bills from Apria indicating that I owe $45.25 accompanied with threats for turning me over to a collection agency. I would at least like to see an itemized bill to see exactly what it is that they think I owe.

Apria repeatedly tells me I have no insurance even though it has never lapsed, has put my account under a 45 day review twice (which I\'m still in the middle of time-wise) and then sent a large chunk of my bill to collections without communication. My insurance tells me Apria is not sending the proper documentation to them for processing, while Apria blames my insurance. They have twice taken $250 from my credit card without authorization. My total out of pocket has ended up being more than $2000 for a CPAP machine, which I completely don\'t understand. And customer service repeatedly lies to me. I feel like this whole thing is a scam.

Apria Healthcare charged my credit card without my authorization. Once I realized this, I spoke to the supervisor in billing and she told me it would be a week before I could get my refund.

I sent Apria thier c-pap machine back (unused), because I couldn\'t get any help with using it, over a year ago. They continue to bill me for it and bill my insurance and Medicare for it. I\'ve called and explained to them that I sent it back to them a zillion times. I\'ve done 3way calls with Medicare with them , they continue to bill and send me to collections. Sometimes they bill me for supplies that I never ordered or received from them , why would I, I sent the machine back to them ,like I said over a year ago. Help

Apria Account# 0547ADU266 For 2022 my Medicare Advantage plan was with Bright Healthcare of Colorado. In Nov.2022, my Pulmonologist prescribed a new ASV (CPAP) machine thru Apria. On Nov. 7th I received my new machine. Their invoice for the humidifier and tubing was $115.22. They charged my VISA Nov. 9th. I called billing and they said that they had submitted it to my insurance and that when they received payment that they would credit my credit card. On Dec. 8th they charged my VISA $73.56 with no explanation for the charges. At this time I noticed the claims for Nov. & Dec, CPAP rental fees had been denied because Apria had not submiitted a \"prior authorization request.. I called billing and they said that they were submitting requests for authorization and payment and that they would credit my VISA (which they did not). Briight Health mailed me a documentation that they received and approved the authorization all before Dec. 31 and had authorized payment. For 2023 Bright Health did not offer Medicare Advantage in Colorado. I switched to AARP United healthcare. On Jan 2nd I called billing to update my insurance. They told me that they did not accept United Healthcare and that I would have to return my machine by Jan 6th to avoid any charges for January. I returned the machine on Jan. 5th. On Jan. 25th they charged my VISA $755.79 with no explanation (I assume it was for Nov. & Dec. Machine rental). I called billing and got nowhere. Finally billing told me that they had a billing resolution team at [email protected]. Bright Health did pay them for the Nov. & Dec.. machine rental claims. I have been in contact with Pamela A. of the billing resoultion team. At first she agreed and said that my VISA charge of $755.79 would be credited. Then she said that she was requesting a refund check for $360.43. There was no explanation as to how she arrived at that amount. I did receive a check for $360.43, but I have emailed them stating that they still owe me $427.18. I have had no response. I have all of the Insurance documentation and claims that they made (one they submitted 3X). and the amount that the insurance paid and claims they denied and why. They even submitted claims to AARP United Healthcare for the Nov. & Dec. machine rental.. I would appreciate very much if you could help me get the reund that I am due. Sincerely John Wolfram

Apria called and threated to call Police over medical equipment my Mother in Law uses for life support. This was over billing issues with Medicare and Hardship forms that were not initially provided. While I understand that debt needs to be resolved, threatening to call police and report the equipment stolen.

Repeated billing issues with Apria charging without authorization; also random bills and amounts.
