The U.S. 54 west of Pittsfield was closed for over two hours on Monday, September, 16th 2013 following a tractor trailer accident in which a tractor trailer overturned, leaving the driver with minor injuries. According to the Illinois State Police the driver, R. Scott Forshey, was heading west when he allowed the tractor trailer to drift off the right hand side of the road, striking several signs.

In an attempt to correct the course of the vehicle the driver over corrected and the vehicle flipped over, coming to rest in the middle of the road, blocking both lanes. Forshey, who was not wearing a seat belt, was taken to Illini Hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
