Traumatic brain injuries (TBI) can cause many effects that vary depending on the area affected by the event. One possible effect is that one’s personality can change from what it was prior to the accident. If you or a loved one has sustained a TBI from an accident, contact Mike Agruss Law for a free consultation so we can help you recover from this experience and get fairly compensated.

While the effects of a TBI can affect one’s emotions in the sense that they are angry, frustrated, or devastated that they do not function the same way that they used to, they also can alter one’s personality and emotions by physiological means. When a certain area of the brain is affected, that area may be in charge of an emotional response that may be impaired after this damage and cause emotional or personality changes. Brain injuries, in general, can damage connections going from the cerebral cortex to the limbic system. This causes disruptions from the cognition and awareness area of the brain to the emotional and behavioral area of the brain.

Possible effects could be clinical depression, anxiety, mood swings, anger, fatigue, difficulty in recalling people or events, and much more that can affect one’s everyday emotions and personality. For example, the victim’s injury may have caused damage to their hippocampus, which is in charge of converting short term memories to long term memories and regulating emotional responses in this way. As a result, the person’s skills recalling memories and how they usually respond to their surroundings may be altered.
