The ankle is a joint which connects the leg to the foot and provides you with a range of motion in the area. Ankle fractures are any break in one or multiple bones in the ankle region, and they can range from mild to severe fractures requiring different treatments. If you or a loved one has fractured a bone from an accident, contact Mike Agruss Law for a free consultation so we can help you recover from this experience and get fairly compensated.

When you fracture your ankle, the moments immediately following the injury can be very painful and stressful. Fractures occur often after accidents where you twist or roll your ankle or after a heavy impact such as a motor vehicle accident. You may hear a popping sound, feel like you cannot move your ankle, it may swell or feel tender, become red, or even pierce the skin in a severe case.

You should immediately seek medical help by calling 911 or having someone else call for you. When you are being treated, the doctors will run various tests on you to assess the injury. This may include a physical examination, X-rays, CT scans, and more. Once they have run the tests and someone has interpreted the results, they will come back with a diagnosis of whether your ankle is actually fractured or not.

After the doctor has diagnosed you with a fractured ankle, they will prescribe you the appropriate treatment so that you can heal in the best, safest, and quickest way possible suited to your specific injury. This may include a walking boot, crutches, a cast, or simple instructions to aid your recovery. You may be instructed to do physical therapy exercises, take pain killers, avoid walking on the foot, and more. In severe cases, surgery may be needed to realign and join the broken bones so that they heal properly and in place. During the time that you are healing, you should adhere to the treatment suggestions in order to get the quickest recovery. Within a month or two, most ankle fractures heal to the point of full use and range of motion in the area.
